My journey through this course was an exciting learning experience. I’ve learned and reflected on numerous fundamental concepts of health and health promotion. I have nothing but positive thoughts when I reflect on the learning I’ve done through the learning resources, or the writings and thinking I’ve done in my forum participation and even developing and writing my three assessments. I've also enjoyed exchanging thoughts with classmates through the forum.
One of my most exciting discoveries through this course was how I enjoyed assignment 2 which was to create an Infographic. I’ve done Infographics in the past and I’ve always enjoyed doing them. However, creating an Infographic related to a health promotion problem was so passionate. I had to consider what was the most important to include and how the message would be best transmitted visually. In my Infographic, I learned the importance of having an attention to detail for it to have an impact. Once I had selected what I wanted to write, I spent a lot of time determining what would be the best color scheme and how I wanted to position things.
My most powerful learning moment may have been the deeper dive I took into learning about senior falls. It is truly incredible the impact senior falls have on the health system. Falls are costing the government billions of dollars annually, and some health promotion interventions could limit the impact they have on the health system. After learning about the logistics related to senior falls, I seriously wonder why we are not doing more as a nation to limit those.
Thus, I've highly enjoyed taking this Health Promotion foundation class. If I would have taken this class sooner in my graduate journey, I would of registered for Health Promotion 2 and 3.
